Why Pilates?

Last year, I posted about the reasons Why I practice Yoga.

Today, I want to share why I also practice Pilates, besides knowing that Pilates helps Madonna stay in perfect shape that is.

What is Pilates?
I am not going to pretend to be an expert on Pilates so let me quote Mayoclinic for this:

"Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance. Pilates is named for its creator, Joseph Pilates, who developed the exercises in the 1920s.

A Pilates routine generally includes exercises that promote core strength and stability, muscle control and endurance, including exercises that stress proper posture and movement patterns and balanced flexibility and strength."

So why do I practice Pilates too?
Almost same reasons as to Why I practice Yoga, plus these:

I can feel its effects on strengthening my core and improving my flexibility.

Husband says that I stand straighter now, probably because I often engage my core even when I am just walking.

I recently sprained my ankle, any exercise that will put weight on my foot is out and the doctor said that I should rest the ankle by elevating it whenever possible. Majority of the Pilates movements can be executed while my ankle is elevated, like the one I did on the picture. The form may not be perfect but I can feel my core on fire during the 20 minute workout.

Rest. Ice. Compress. Elevate.

I love the challenge, Pilates looks easy but is 100% hard.

Gives me a cardio workout, my heart is almost running away from me after a session of this Pilates video by Boho Beautiful.

Can't choose between Yoga and Pilates?

Try them both.
